This Past Weekend in IN, IL & MI
Mon., Sep. 3. 2007 12:36am EDT
We started this past weekend in the home cities of this year's two Super Bowl teams (Indianapolis and Chicago) and finished it up near the city where last year's Super Bowl was held (Detroit).
Like the Super Bowl, each event was crowded, whether indoors (Friday in Indianapolis and Saturday in Oak Lawn IL) or outdoors (Sunday in Howell MI). Unlike the Super Bowl, however, every city was a winner.
The weekend ended on a perfectly picturesque note with a concert at the Howell Courthouse amphitheater in the middle of town on a beautiful summer's evening. Unbelievably, it was our first concert in the Great Lakes State this year (we played 13 there last year), and a major portion of our Michigan fan base made sure they didn't miss it.
Special thanks to:
Our concert coordinators: Dave Newland (Indianapolis); Mel Michalski (Oak Lawn); and Donna Holloway (Howell).
Our merchandise coordinators: Aaron, Keith, Cathy and Donetta (Indianapolis); and Kim and Johanna (Oak Lawn); and Marie and Maggie (Howell).
Our driver: SuperDave Johnson, back behind the wheel after first driving for us on our 10-day tour this past July, the maiden voyage of the ApologetiX bus. Dave also came with us to Canada on August 5, and he's like part of the family.
Our soundman: Charlie Freed, a 23-year-old sound man from Cleveland OH, who filled in for us for the entire weekend after our regular guy, Micah Clausen, had to bow out at the last minute. Charlie's a great guy and he did a great job.
Our roadies: Rich and Chris (Howell)
Honorable mention to:
Tim Thurmond (a.k.a. "the Balloonatic"), a children's evangelist who created amazing multi-colored balloon figures of all five ApologetiX members. Tim told us he often uses our parodies in his puppet performances and he wanted to give a blessing back to us. Tim has posted the photos of our balloons in the "photos" section of his MySpace page, which is http://myspace.com/hi_timt
His website is http://www.mark10ministries.com/
Chris Bailey (formerly Christopherson), who attended her 50th ApologetiX concert Saturday night, tying her with Audra Knatcal for eighth place on the all-time list. Chris has seen us play in 14 states, and she hopes to see us in Arkansas on September 8.
Brandi, Jenna, and Caleb Leasure, who drove from Ohio to see see us in Howell MI on Sunday. Michigan is their 17th state, moving them into fourth place on the all-time list. It was also their 10th straight weekend having seen an ApologetiX concert, which breaks the previous record of nine straight weekends, which they shared with Bethany Davis.
Rich and Marie Polick, who drove from Pittsburgh to the Howell concert.
