This Past Weekend in OH & IN
Tue., Jun. 16. 2009 11:47am EDT
Besides a bus that wouldn't stay started after Friday's festivities, we enjoyed our concerts this past weekend in Springboro OH (near Dayton and Cincinnati), Martinsville IN (near Bloomington and Indianapolis), and Mount Vernon OH (near Mansfield and Columbus).
As excited as we were over our Pittsburgh Penguins winning the Stanley Cup Friday night, our memories of the event will always include the fact that we couldn't get the ApologetiX bus to move just a few miles down the road so we could watch the final period in our hotel rooms, even though the concert was over and the trailer was packed. Instead Tom Tincha and Jimmy watched it over the Internet on Tom's computer, and Keith and J. got play-by-play over the phone from their wives. We eventually nursed it to the hotel in time to watch late-night clips of the game on ESPN.
God graciously provided for the problem by putting three electricians on our crew (usually we don't have any) for the weekend and getting us additional help from local diesel mechanics in Ohio and Indiana on Friday and Saturday.
Special thanks to:
Our bus driver, Ohio electrician Bob Rabenstein, who brought his 19-year-old son and electrician in training, Bill (a.k.a. "Biff"), along for the weekend. Bob was instrumental in setting up the electrical system for our bus when it was being built two years ago. He was also integral to the problem-solving process when the bus wouldn't stay started Friday night. Longtime fan and fellow electrician in training Evan "Ethan" Gross was also on board and helpful.
Our concert coordinators: Pastor Dave Current and Jim McAfee (Springboro); Duke Freeman (Martinsville); and Ruben Clark (Mount Vernon).
Our merchandise coordinators: Bob and Biff (Springboro); Ruth and Heather (Martinsville); and Trent and Austin (Mount Vernon).
Our roadies: Biff and Ethan (Springboro, Martinsville, and Mt. Vernon), Rich (Martinsville and Mount Vernon), and Evan (Mount Vernon).
Our opening/closing band: The Great Transparency (Springboro).
Honorable mention to:
Rich "Aquaman" Polick, who came to our concerts Saturday and Sunday has now seen us play 161 times and in 38 consecutive months.
Evan "Ethan" Gross, who came along for the entire weekend and has now seen us play 68 times. His brother, Brandon, who came to Sunday's concert, has now been to 79 shows.
Here's some email feedback we received from Saturday's promoter:I want to thank you and the guys for a great time. We've already been talking about possibly bringing you guys back for an outdoor venue next year. Everyone I spoke with said they loved your performance.

Martinsville IN Here are some more comments we received from fans who attended:I was at your Martinsville IN concert. We had so much fun and plan to attend more concerts soon. This was my husband's first experience to a concert with live music and he loved it.

I was at your show in Martinsville last Saturday night. You guys are great and really know how to rock. I love going to shows like yours where the artist is not only performing but ministering to people. May God Bless you guys and have His hand over you in your travels. My wife and I will be watching for you when you are somewhere around our area to come and see you guys again.
