Endless Drummers: Alumni Assemble for Anniversary
Wed., Aug. 29. 2012 1:53pm EDT
Although it seems like Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner has been our drummer forever (almost seven years and over 600 shows), ApologetiX was once the Spinal Tap of Christian bands, with a long succession of drummers.
Thankfully, unlike Spinal Tap, all our drummers are still alive, as evidenced at our 20th anniversary show last Friday. All seven men who have served as official ApologetiX drummers were there: Jeff Pakula, Rick Servocky, Bob Flaherty, Keith Harrold, Fred Behanna, Bill "Moose" Rieger, and, of course, our beloved Jimmy.
Earlier that afternoon, we filmed a group discussion with all of them except Rick, who couldn't make it till later. Their collective sense of humor is only matched by their sense of rhythm, and we plan to include excerpts on the 20th anniversary DVD.
The two other men who've played drums on our CDs -- David McKee on Jesus Christ Morningstar (1998) and "Weird Al" Yankovic's drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, on Biblical Graffiti (1999) -- sent their regrets:Regrettably, I will not be able to attend due to too many other commitments that have come up. I was really trying. I'm sorry about that.
I hope you all have a splendid time, and that the flame-throwing-unicyclists (from Hungary) are as good as you hope. Thank you muchly for the invitation -- please keep 'em coming.
Hugs and Antelope,
David McKee "Bermuda" was hoping to send a video greeting to be played at the event, but explained:I've tried and tried, and just can't get anything that sounds or looks good. The camera simply does not love me! If there's an appropriate way to use text instead, here's what I'd like to say:
Congratulations to all of the past and present members of ApologetiX for two decades of making great parodies with a great message. Twenty years probably seems like a long time, but it probably went by very quickly. Here's to a job well done, and best wishes for another 20.
Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz
