Words of Encouragement from the Second Donor
Fri., Jul. 15. 2016 12:12pm EDT
The second fan who offered to match donations this week wrote us a beautiful letter afterward. Here are some excerpts:
"Obviously ApologetiX qualifies as a ministry worth contributing to. Being able to do so is a pleasure and an honor for me (as I'm sure it is to many of your fans).
"I know you can't feel like you are 'living the dream' when you face the reality of a broken down bus and past due bills. But in a way, some slice of your life is a fantasy for me and other frustrated musicians and artists. As an aside, it's kind of cool to realize that the 'normal' life I lead has its fantasy aspects for you!
"It takes a certain kind of crazy daring awesomeness to pursue the life you've chosen -- both as an artist on stage and a Christian on display for everyone to publicly judge.
"I've been really down about the world around us lately ... I worry that I'm sending my children into an adulthood that dooms them to oppression and isolation if they make responsible choices. And then I read your e-mail reminding me that not only was ApologetiX alive and kicking, but also that some random guy with a successful small business was enthusiastic about putting his $2500 on the table and challenging others to join him. It gave me hope.
"I know you dread writing those e-mails which put you in the position of 'begging' your fans for support. And I am sure there are some folks who are turned off by receiving them. But for many of us, the request is a blessing. Even when we can't respond financially, it is a weird kind of blessing to know that the need is there. Knowing that you struggle makes it easy for us to relate to what you are going through.
"You are living the hero's journey for real, and the story is every bit as compelling as Luke Skywalker's. But we can only participate indirectly in Luke's story. The ApologetiX story gives the audience the chance to join in the hero's journey in a 100% literal way.
"I feel like I can make a difference. I KNOW that I can make a difference, because you've told me so personally! And it's not just a CGI monster that we are fighting. Every step you guys take forward is a victory for God's light -- not just some made up dark side vs. light side dance.
"When you reach the point (as I'm sure you have before and will again) of asking yourself, 'Why do I do this? Why do I keep allowing the pressure to weigh down on me?' know that it is not without purpose and not without positive results. Your music may entertain us, inform us, even convict us. But your life inspires us. Keep up the fight. And keep us apprised of the steps in your hero's journey."
Wow, what we can say to that? Did we accidentally receive an email that was really meant for Billy Graham? Praise the Lord! By the way, the first matching donor said many wonderful things, too. We've included some of them in a separate article below. We'll also tell you what he said after we told him about the second matching donor.
