Condolences to ApX Guitarist Wayne Bartley
Fri., Feb. 28. 2020 7:44pm EST
Our condolences go out to ApX guitarist and mixer Wayne Bartley, whose uncle Dan Tompkins passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday. Wayne says he died in his sleep from a heart attack. He was 68.
Dan played a key role in Wayne eventually becoming a member of ApologetiX, something for which we will forever be grateful:
"He is the uncle who told me he had seen this band at church called ApologetiX," says Wayne. "He said he thought I should be in that band. This was in the early to mid-90's."
Nearly 20 years later, Wayne finally began recording with ApologetiX, in early 2014. He first met fellow ApX guitarist Tom Tincha on the bus in grade school. The rest of us met Wayne in 2010 or 2011 through Tinch. Wayne even played some guest guitar live with us in March 2011 at our concerts in Bessemer City NC and Alpharetta SC.
Dan was extremely active in the Thorncreek United Methodist Church. He taught Bible classes at Sunnyview, Grey's Colonial Acres, Country Manor, Melody Manor and Ferraro Personal Care Home. He was on the board of directors at the Hope House of Ministries.
"He preached and taught the scriptures at old folks' homes," Wayne added. "He was very fun to talk to about God and the scriptures. My mom had him stay with us as kids while he went to college for airplane repair. I really liked this uncle!"
A memorial service for will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thorncreek United Methodist Church in Butler PA.
