Keith Haynie to Have Surgery in February
Thu., Jan. 20. 2022 10:04pm EST
As we reported last month, ApX bass player Keith Haynie was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain from December 6-8. At the time, the surgeon who saw Keith said they believed there was a foreign body in his intestine (Keith joked that it was an alien) that possibly could have been there for years, but his intestine was too inflamed to operate on at that time.
They sent him home with antibiotics and a plan to do another CT in January. That finally happened this week.
His wife, Krista, is a nurse and gave us this update on his situation Tuesday:
"Keith had the follow-up CT and met with the surgeon today. No alien. Nothing foreign. He has a congenital condition that goes unnoticed until a flare-up, and this was his first flare-up. Unfortunately, the next flare-up could cause a tear and lead to dangerous consequences. They are scheduling him for surgery to remove a small part of intestine in February; they will give us the date in the next few days.
"They are hoping to do it laparoscopically (poke holes instead of long incision) which will help him heal faster. He is expected to be in the hospital two to five days, depending on how everything goes after surgery. He's most disappointed there was no alien.
"We do have a great victory: Keith's appointment this morning was at the Hillman Cancer Center. We were both praying to God that it wasn't cancer, and it is not. We are grateful. Now we pray the journey goes well.
"With this surgery, they are planning to take out his appendix, too, because it's in close proximity. If he has symptoms down the road, they want to make sure it's not mistaken for appendicitis."
Although we're sad that Keith needs surgery, we are encouraged by the diagnosis and prognosis. Praise the Lord! Please keep him in your prayers.
