Update on Fred's Daughter
Sun., Jun. 26. 2005 1:09pm EDT

Here's the latest from our former drummer Fred Behanna, regarding his daughter Beth's ongoing struggle with Hodgkin's Disease:

"Here's what's up: On Saturday, June 18, Beth and I went to the 'Big Apple,' New York City; she had an appointment at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on Monday and she decided she wanted to go up a little early and do some sightseeing.

"On Monday, we had breakfast at the Ritz Diner and then went back to the hotel and checked out. We arrived at Sloan-Kettering around 12:30 and Beth did all the necessary paper work. Her appointment was sheduled for 2:30 and she actually got in about 3:10. The doctor, Dr. Owen O' Conner spent almost three hours with Beth, reviewing her charts and discussing various issues with her. At about 6:10, Beth came out with four options for treatment all of which had not been offered to her here.

Dr. O' Conner said that he would call Dr. Fierro (Beth's oncologist) to let him know what had been discussed. While we were still in the waiting room, getting ready to leave the hospital, Dr. O' Conner called Beth back to his office. He had actually called Dr. Fierro and was able to get through to him on his cell phone and immediately they discussed Beth's treatment plan and Dr. Fierro was more than willing to follow Dr. O' Conner's decision.

"Dr. O' Conner is highly regarded as a leader in cancer research and has conducted many clinical trials that are now standard treatment. He feels that Beth should respond well to the treatment and, while it may not cure, it just possibly will stop the disease dead in its tracks which, if it works, will be just fine. While I am optimistic I'm also cautious about being too excited and am taking one day at a time.

"Beth, on the other hand, (and I'm glad she is feeling this way) is extremely encouraged and she is actually feeling good about her chances. I could hear it in her voice and had trouble containing my tears of joy as we rode home all night Monday. There's a sound in her now that is saying 'I just may make it.' Praise God!!! I'll let you go now, please continue to pray that God is moving in a mighty way, thanks for being my friends."
