ApologetiX in Michigan, Wisconsin, Mongolia?
Thu., Jan. 24. 2002 2:12pm EST
J. Jackson from ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.
Thanks to everybody who prayed for ApologetiX drummer Bill Rieger's foot, which was severely injured before the concert on New Year's Eve. Not only did Bill play all three of our concerts last weekend in Ohio and Kansas, he even helped drive ... only the members of this band know just how much pressure that means Bill was able to put on his foot! God is awesome!

1. THIS WEEKEND: MICHIGAN (FRIDAY) AND WISCONSIN (SATURDAY & SUNDAY)
The states of Michigan and Wisconsin have been especially good to us in recent years. We seem to play an increasing number of concerts there, and that's fine with us, because the people there are awesome! A year ago, we spent the final Friday of January in Michigan, and that's where we'll be this time, too. Then it's two days in Wisconsin.

As a nervous Steelers fan (I know we're heavily favored against the Patriots, but I still remember the championship games we lost in '94 and '97 and almost lost in '95), I feel bad for you Packers fans and Bears fans after last week's losses. I was rooting for both of those teams to do well during the season. But now you have no excuse for missing us in Wisconsin this weekend! As it is, we will have to listen to the Steelers game in the van on the way to the concert and during set-up. I don't do well with such stress. Then again, I'm a guy who used to change the channel when there was a tense moment on "Leave it to Beaver" or "Lassie," too! Yeah, no kidding!
2. FOOTBALL & FAITH
Speaking of the Steelers, Jason Gildon, star linebacker for the Steelers, has a son who was in my daughter's Wednesday night church class last year and who attends the same Christian school as she does this year (He's in kindergarten; she's in pre-school.) But here's something I think you'll find even more interesting: I read some very inspiring quotes from Steelers quarterback, Kordell Stewart, in a recent ESPN magazine cover story, as he talked about his turnaround at the end of last season that has carried into this season, taking him from a second-string quarterback who was almost out of chances to the leader of the team with the best record in the AFC and a player who finished fourth in this year's MVP voting:
" I started praying again and called my daddy and my old Colorado coach, Bill McCartney (Editor's note: McCartney was one of the main guys involved at the start of Promise Keepers), all my Christian friends."
Then later, Stewart recounted a story about an important comeback game that turned everything around for him: "So I go inside to the training table and start praying. I say, ėGod, I'm as scared as all outdoors, but whatever you have in store for me, let it be seen' ... So first drive. It's third and 16, and some dude knocks the ball out of my hands. The guy's holding my left arm, but the ball hits the turf and bounces straight up into my right hand. I ain't lying! Suddenly there's nobody within 10 yards of me. I can run as far as I can see. And I run for like 25 yards. Now, you tell me what that is. That's confirmation, bro'. We score, get the ball back, and we call a quarterback draw. I take off, and Anthony Dorsett comes and hits me in my chest and falls off me like I'm a block of ice. And I score, and all the boys jump on me, and we win the game, man. And that was one of the most inspirational moments in my life, like the Hail Mary pass against Michigan in college. Because this was a test of my faith."
Stewart closed the interview with the following quote: "I've been dipped in some holy water. I've been dipped, bro'. Terry Bradshaw may not want to come back here, but I'll come back. I'll come back here and scratch your back. The same cat who threw beer on me? I'll shake his hand and go eat dinner with him today. And he'll be nervous as all outdoors, and I won't be. Tellin' you, bro'. Tellin' you."
I realize that there are Christians on every team, and I love that fact, but I never get tired of hearing athletes give God the credit for their accomplishments. And I know that football is just a game and God has bigger concerns than who wins. I just thought you might find the story encouraging. Thanks to ApologetiX fan Mike Froio, who gave the magazine to me at our New Year's Eve concert in E. Rochster, NY. Of course, he told me he gave it to me because he hated the Steelers, but I'll forgive him for that! :)

4. APOLOGETIX IN MONGOLIA
We love getting e-mails like this one from Mark Sampson, in Monroeville PA:
"ApologetiX (numerous CDs) was the main play on my daughter Kirby's CD player on a mission trip we took to Mongolia in August! Your tunes were jammin' all the way across the Pacific and literally into the middle of nowhere, which describes Mongolia perfectly. Keep the Change is probably the best stuff the Lord has blessed you guys with so far. Everything from the title and supporting meaning behind it to the great variety of music is top notch. Prayin' that the Lord will continue to bless you all in this great ministry."
5. THE REAL SIN SAVIOR" HITS THE CHARTS IN USA AND AUSTRALIA
We got this nice piece of news from a fan of ours named Doug in Ohio:
"Hey what's up, bro? I'm a fan of yours from up in Ohio and I'm proud to say I got your newest CD today, and you guys are off the charts. I've heard both versions of Bethlehemian Rhapsody leave me and my older brother in stitches because of the great wordplay you guys have used to display one of God's more well known stories from the Old Testament ... Its an awesome CD ... Anyways, what I'm really writing about is to inform you that your song "The Real Sin Savior" is on the http://christianmusic.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.cmcentral.com/ also known as "The Chart". This is basically a Christian music chart that lets the fans vote for their favorite songs on and off the radio and through some calculations that I can't exactly apprehend (being only in the eighth grade), songs get on the list and it is kind of like MTV's TRL only for the Christian groups. Anyways, check it out and congrats on making it. It updates every week."
The same week, we got this e-mail from a DJ in South Australia:
"Lynton from Life FM in Adelaide here, mate. Just wanted to let you know we've had a HUGE response for The Real Sin Saviour. Excellently written, and I get calls every time I play it. I listened to Eminem's original the other day and was stunned at how similar they are!! Anyway, we're doing a Top 200 most requested songs of the last three years or so - and Real Sin Saviour got in, so I was wondering if you could send us 4 or 5 copies for giveaway during the Top 200. Thanks, mate."
Those of you familiar with our parody, "The Real Sin Savior," will get a kick out of this one: We recently did back-to-back concerts in Missouri (Hey, we'll be doing that again in about two weeks), and at each concert, I got to meet that particular concert's promoter for the first time. Here's the weird thing: Although the concerts were about three hours apart from each other, each promoter was wearing an NFL shirt of a team other than his hometown team, and each promoter greeted me with the words, "But, J., what if we pray?" from our "The Real Sin Savior" parody. It was the first time I had been greeted with those words ever. And it happened on back to back days from promoters wearing NFL shirts that weren't their hometown team. We need to get a commemorative coin fired up for that one!
6. APOLOGETIX INTERVIEWS ON THE NET
Thanks to God's provision and the hard work of our publicist, Kathleen Burke, we do a lot of radio and newspaper interviews. Most of the time, I forget to tell you about them, but here are two that you can check out for yourself:
Wed., January 30, at 7:35 a.m. EST, I'll be doing an interview with WCTL in Waterford, PA (near Erie). The station has a website with Internet streaming, so you can listen to the interview. Here's the website: www.wctl.org
Also, our guitarist/producer, Karl Messner, and bassist/comedian, Keith Haynie, both were interviewed this week for an on-line feature in the Beaver County Times in the Pittsburgh PA area, and the story will be on line sometime today, although it's not there yet as of 2:04 a.m. as I type this! But it will be there by the end of the day! Here's where to go to check it out: http://www.gobeavercounty.com/imedia/cstage/

8. PRAYER REQUEST
This is from Chris Rieger, wife of our drummer, Bill Rieger. Chris assures us this is not an e-mail hoax and is actually from a friend of hers. Chris' e-mail is chris@apologetix.com.
"I have a special request which is of the utmost importance. Most of you know that I have participated in a Medical Mission to Mexico for the past three years. While there I came to know a very special little girl named Adela. While in Mexico for the Mission we stay at an orphanage. Adela is at the same one. Adela wasn't there this year. The story is that her Mom came and got her. Perfect ending right? Wrong! Mom came and got her 12 year old daughter to sell her! Unthinkable right? Not down there. We will never know the dark, desperate place you must be to sell your own daughter. It happens all the time, but this time I know one of these kids. She is precious and innocent. I am asking for your prayers. There is a group of us trying to find the mother. We hope to negotiate the price and bring Adela here to be adopted by a waiting family. The problem is finding the mother before it is too late. We really need divine intervention in this situation. I know it is only one child, but better to save one child from the "wolves" than none at all. I need to at least try. The time for the Power of Prayer is now! Thank you for remembering Adela. With deepest gratitude, Andrea Jordan. "
Thanks for praying for Adela and for praying for ApologetiX.
Apologetically,
J.

James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
