J's Journal:
We've all seen sitcoms that show husbands doing things that cause their wives great embarrassment. Well, it wasn't a sitcom, but David's first wife, Michal, was appalled at her husband's behavior in 2 Samuel 6:
"As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart." (2 Samuel 6:16)
When he came home, she really let him have it, exclaiming "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!" (2 Samuel 6:20b)
But David would be vindicated in the long run. This song tells the story from Michal's perspective.
