From the album Distant Light,
Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress) was a
#2 hit for The Hollies in 1972.
Songwriter: Harold Clarke, Roger F. Cook & Roger John Reginald Greenaway
J's Journal:
A tale of espionage told by two spies sent by Joshua to Jericho right before the Israelites invaded. Joshua chapter 2 says they stayed at "house of a prostitute named Rahab," but the story shows that she was not as bad as she seemed. As this song puts it, "she was a lawful woman in a bad place."
This song originally appeared on our homemade "Want It: Dead or Alive" cassette back in late 1992, and the words came fast and furious once I got the chorus. I revised the lyrics a bit for "Biblical Graffiti."
