Sad News from the Messners
Sun., Oct. 1. 2006 5:27pm EDT
We're sad to report the following two pieces of news. First, from Deb Messner, wife of ApologetiX guitarist/producer Karl Messner, in regard to her friend Lorri, for whom many of you have been praying:
On Thursday, September 28, at 7:40 p.m., our beloved Lorri lost her two-year battle with breast cancer in Hartwell Hospital in Hartwell, GA. Both her mom and dad were with her when she passed away. We were all there the night before, and we were the last to speak with her before she slipped away from us.
We are all at peace with her death, and are so proud of her battle to survive. I got to spend some absolutely amazing time with Lorri in the past week, and as much as I will miss her friendship, her amazing sense of humor, and everything else, I am so glad she is no longer in pain.
In a whirlwind of events, we found out about Lorri's death at 8 p.m. Thursday. As I type this, I am on a farm outside of Fort Worth TX. Four hours after Lorri's passing, we loaded Jammer (the miniature horse I train) onto the horse trailer and made our 24-hour voyage to Texas for our World Championship competition. He is now safely in a stall here on a close friend's farm.
My friend Polly (Jammer's owner) and I are flying BACK to Georgia Saturday afternoon to attend Lorri's Memorial Service on Sunday afternoon. Then we are flying back to Texas late Sunday night to start our World Championship competition on Monday. I am speaking at Lorri's memorial service.
Please pray for me, Polly, Jammer and for everyone who knew and loved Lorri during this time.
Here is information about her service:
In lieu of flowers, the Savages have asked that you make a memorial donation in Lorri's name to the First Baptist Church's building fund. Please make sure you put that it is for the building fund and that it is in memory of Lorri. Also, make sure your name and address is noted so that the Savages can send an acknowledgement. The address for the church is listed below.
First Baptist Church
81 E Howell Street
Hartwell, Georgia 30683
Condolences can be sent to:

Your prayers and love over the past two years are so much appreciated by everyone.
Deb
Secondly, just as we were going to press with this week's newsletter, around 11:30pm Monday night, Karl got the dreaded call from his mom: Karl's uncle Jim Stanley, who is married to Karl's mother's sister, Betty has passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease. Uncle Jim was one of SEVERAL members of the family to play guitar and sing regularly. A master craftsman, Uncle Jim is pictured here a couple of years ago helping to build the Messners' enormous horse stable (the "Barnthenon" as Karl calls it.) For some reason, Uncle Jim affectionately called Karl, "Curly."
Our prayers are with the Stanleys tonight.
