2. MONDAY-MORNING STUDIO UPDATE ON OUR NEW CD, "KEEP THE CHANGE"

An update on the progress of our new CD, "Keep the Change," from ApologetiX lead guitarist producer, Karl Messner:

Another all-nighter in ApologetiX studios comes to a close at 5:30 this morning (Monday). We're working around the clock to get Keep the Change polished for release. One of the songs we're doing is a great song by a great group with an infamous drummer, and we used a $6 million dollar recording studio to capture that particular drum sound. When we were completely done with the song, Bill and I were listening to the drums and decided they weren't good enough.

So, Sunday night, we met at ApologetiX Studios, just north of Pittsburgh, and the big hardwood-floor kitchen became a drum chamber. We worked on that song for hours getting the mic-ing right and getting the parts just right. We even had a visit from our friend Allen, the drum guru, who brought some much needed drum-recording gear and technical expertise.

Well, at 4 a.m., we finally got everything PERFECT, and turned the drum chamber back into a kitchen. (Don't worry, I have it all on video, so you'll see that showing up somewhere someday!) Afterwards we sat back and listened, and we were just GIDDY at how good it sounded!!! We've been working around the clock all summer on Keep the Change and it's hands down the best we've ever done. As a matter of fact we usually keep the original songs handy as a reference when we record - to check our sound and mix. While mixing a track last night, we thought we were listening to the original, so we were listening intently to get the sound, and just when we were about to switch over to "Keep the Change" to adjust it, we noticed that we WERE listening to Keep the Change, and Bill looked at me and said, "Dude that could SO be them!" (i.e. "My, our performance sounds a lot like the original band.")

We're really proud of what God has allowed us to accomplish on this CD and I know it's going to be many people's favorite ApologetiX CD. It's already mine!

Another full day of recording tomorrow, some late-night final mixing, and Keep the Change will be handed over to the CD makers Tuesday or Wednesday. Here's praying that they can do their part in half the time they requested!!! We'll need that to make the deadline!

Karl

3. KEEP THE CHANGE SONG LIST (CLUES #15 and 16)

"Keep the Change" is slated for release on September 25. As we did with "Spoofernatural," we're giving clues about the songs on this CD. Here are clues #15 and 16:

#15 "Stay in the Light"

This will be the first ApologetiX CD since "Ticked" to not include a country song. To some of you, that will be a welcome change of pace ... but don't breathe a sigh of relief too soon. We're not above stretching the comfort zones of our listeners with another genre of music. If the Newsboys can do it, why not us? However, all that having been said, I confess that I remember when it seemed like the musical style and group that we spoofed in this song would never go away. Then I blinked, and both the style and the group had disappeared. Tragedy. The group actually goes by a name that sounds like the nickname by which we call our Biblical Graffiti CD, and they got their name the same way the CD got its nickname. How deep is your knowledge of ë70's music? This is a song based on Psalm 119, which tells us that the Word of God is a lamp, lighting our path.

#16 "Simp Liztik"

The style of music in this song is quite different than that of the previous clue. The group we spoofed here is one of today's most popular bands, and their most recent CD, released in late 2000, entered the charts at #1 and broke the record for first-week sales by a hard-rock band. But before that CD, they had at least one other significant hit, which paved the way for the success of the new CD. The singer calls himself a reject in that song, and our parody talks about how Christ came into this world for the rejects, and how He even told the religious leaders of his day that the tax collectors and prostitutes were getting in the Kingdom of Heaven before they were (Matt. 21:31). Just like Christ healed the lepers of yesterday, he heals the social lepers of today. That's why the chorus of this song goes, "He did it all for the crooked, the hookers, so you can be bad lookin' and still get up to Heaven."

4. PRAYER REQUESTS

Please pray for the mother of our bass player, Keith Haynie, who was just hospitalized. She has been sick as a result of radiation treatments she is getting for cancer. Unfortunately, Keith's e-mail is not working right now as a result of computer problems and his recent move into a new house, so please pray for the restoration of that, too.

Please pray for Karl as he puts the finishing touches on our new CD, and for our drummer, Bill, as he assists him. They won't be getting much sleep, but they'll be needing a lot of wisdom, strength, endurance, patience and hope.

Please also pray that our CD duplicators are able to come through in a pinch for us so we can meet this deadline.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for me and for my family on August 23. Although I can't get into details here (it's a private family matter), God's wisdom and mercy prevailed, and our prayers were answered.

Thanks! God bless you all!

Apologetically,

J.
