Meet the Bus Driver Pt. 2: Randy Starbuck
Mon., Jul. 30. 2007 12:53pm EDT
For the weekends of July 27-29 and August 3-5, our bus driver is California-native Randy Starbuck, a married father of three and longtime ApologetiX fan. In between those two weekends, he and his son Stephen are helping our lead guitarist/producer, Karl Messner, with band-related projects. During this time, he is also going by the name "Randy Steer-bus."
Randy is the Director of Redevelopment for the City of Pittsburg (no H on the end) California, where he is responsible for community revitalization, including creating affordable housing, neighborhood improvement, downtown redevelopment and overall community improvement. Although he's been in Pittsburg for the last two years, Randy's been doing this type of work for over 27 years.
Tell us a little more about yourself:
I am originally from Whittier CA in the L.A. area and a graduate of Westmont College in Santa Barbara with a BA in Political Science and I have a masters degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.
How about your family life?
On August 21 of this year my wife Elizabeth and I are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary! Elizabeth is from Moline, IL and we meet at NIU. She has an education degree and tutors (professionally now) after a long tenure of homeschooling our three children up to the start of high school. She is both my wife and my best friend, and I am as mad about her today as I was when I met her!
How did you persuade her to let you drive for ApologetiX?
She also loves the band but someone had to stay home and take care of life in our home in Suisun City, CA. She loves to read and got movies.
How about your kids?
About our kids, Paul, 20 who is transferring to UC Santa Cruz (home of the Banana Slugs!) this Septemnber: Stephen, 17, a high school senior who is also traveling/ road crewing with the band this trip and is an awesome guitar player per Karl's review; and Emily, 13 who is a high school freshman an loves dance and theater.
Do you have any hobbies?
When I not working or driving the bus for Apologetix I enjoy playing golf, working in our gardens at home, and going to movies. I am also an avid student of the U.S. Civil War as well.
Any other Randy Starbuck trivia you'd like share with our fans?
In a roundabout way, I am connected with a certain well known coffee chain out of Seattle. Anyone who wants to know the story just catch me at a concert! My next goal in life is to get up on stage and sing "Won't Get Born Again" with the band some day!
