This Past Weekend in VA & NC
Sun., Aug. 24. 2008 12:48pm EDT
Although we only officially advertised two concerts this past weekend, we actually played three -- one in Dinwiddie VA (Friday) and two in Wilmington NC (Saturday and Sunday). The unadvertised concert was held Sunday morning, as Southside Baptist Church in Wilmington invited us to take over their Sunday service.
Both Wilmington NC shows were professionally videotaped, so if you missed them, you may still get a chance to see them in the future. We played two very different sets, with only one song in common between them.
Even the testimony time for each was different, as the members of our sound and light crew for the weekend took turns sharing their testimonies, Nathan Jones on Saturday night and Jerry Hayostek on Sunday morning. Both of those guys have very powerful stories to tell of God's grace in their lives in the midst of tremendous adversity.
Poor Jerry had to give his testimony Sunday morning with minimal sleep. Our Wilmington hotel's night manager, an intellectual-but-skeptical man with plenty of questions, engaged Jerry in conversation for many hours until 5:30 a.m. But Jerry enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity.
Here are email excepts we got from the coordinators of each concert:I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to come out and play for us. My church enjoyed it immensely. It was the first time they had "gone out on a limb" to do something like that, and now I think they are energized to try different things to work in our community.
Pennie Foy Thanks so much for working with us. Our folks loved ya.
John McIntyre Here are some other email comments from the weekend:Really enjoyed myself at the Dinwiddie gathering. What a great ministry. Thanks.

Charlotte MI It was so nice to finally meet you in person. How could anyone ever doubt that Jesus laughs with joy at your devotion and ministry. Thank you so much and I hope to see you soon again.

Wilmington NC Special thanks to:
Our concert coordinators: Pennie Foy (Dinwiddie); Pastors John McIntyre, Derik Davis, and Kelly Stanley (Wilmington).
Our merchandise coordinators: Celeste, Carrie, and Janice (Dinwiddie); and Alisha, Melody, and Marie (Wilmington).
Our driver: Dave "Ripper" Rippon, who has now driven for us four times. That's quite a sacrifice in itself, but it's a much bigger one when you realize Dave has to drive from his home in Goderich ON, Canada to Pittsburgh PA before he even starts driving the bus for us.
Our roadies: Jerry, Nate J., and Nate H. (Dinwiddie and Wilmington); and Rich (Wilmington).
Our video crew: Shannon and Bob (Wilmington).
Honorable mention to: Rich "Aquaman" Polick and his daughter, Marie, who drove from Pittsburgh to see us at both Wilmington shows, their 120th and 99th concerts, respectively. The next time they see us, they'll each reach significant milestones, as Rich will tie the all-time record for concerts by a fan, and Marie will become only the fifth fan to see us 100 times.
