ApologetiX "Spoofernatural" Hits the Airwaves
Sat., Nov. 11. 2000 2:23am EST

Greetings!

J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here!

It's been a great week! Lots of radio interviews and very encouraging feedback from DJs on our new CD, "Spoofernatural." All the DJs are telling me it's our best CD yet! The DJs were sent special pre-release copies of the CD. The actual copies of the CD begin shipping to stores this week, although they won't be available till Tuesday, November 21.

Yeah, like many of you, Lisa and I watched the elections on Tuesday night, and we were up till 2 a.m. or so, and our lead guitarist/producer Karl stayed up even later than that. Last night, Karl, Keith (our bass player) and Krista (Keith's wife and Karl's sister) went to see Carman live in concert in Pittsburgh. Seems that Carman has two parodies in his "live" shows these days, too, including one song that we also spoofed on "Spoofernatural." So once again, you give a Christian band the weekend off, and what do they do? Go to see a Christian concert! Ooh! I forgot to tell you that last weekend when we went to see Caedmon's Call, their bass player looked uncannily like our bass player, Keith/Stan/Ted/Gary/Stu/Curly/Kevin/Baby/Kenny/Rich/Speedo/Lee/ Mr.Galparin/Brian/JohnCrawford/Frank/Wayne Haynie. It's bad enough that everybody else thinks Keith looks like somebody else; now we've found somebody else who looks like Keith.

APOLOGETIX AT CREATION EAST AND WEST IN 2001?

Hey, Karl Messner, lead guitarist and producer for ApologetiX here!

Did you get to go to Creation, the nation's largest Christian music festival, in 2000? Well, thanks to our friends and fans, we did! We'd love to play there again in 2001, and we'd love for you to be there too! And there's a way you can help both yourself and us to get there. Thanks to all the heartfelt letters Creation received in 1999 encouraging them to invite ApologetiX, they invited us to play there in 2000. (They even asked us to stop the letters!) And we ended up on the main stage right after Plus One, the hottest new CCM group.

YOU COULD WIN FREE TICKETS FOR CREATION This year the folks at Creation are doing a survey on their website to help them choose. You get to pick your top ten favorite bands you'd like to see at Creation 2001. If you leave your name they'll enter you in a drawing for free tickets, too. Now, before I give you the address and you run and put us in all ten slots, realize this: we want to give them real feedback that they can use -- and besides, we don't want them to think that we stuffed the ballot box! So please, go to the site below and pick your favorite ten bands you'd like to see live and please DO pick us as ONE of them. And please fill out all the info. (Please only do it once, but please get others to fill it out -- everyone you know will be fine!) The only thing harder than getting invited to Creation is getting invited back. And this year we'd love to play BOTH Creation East AND West.

Here's the address of the survey: http://www.gospelcom.net/creation/c2001_surv.php3

WHAT'S ON THE NEW CD?

The fifth ApologetiX CD, "Spoofernatural," is right on schedule to be available in stores on Tuesday, November 21. Many, many more stores have placed orders in the past week.

"Spoofernatural" contains 19 biblical parodies of rock hits from the 1950's-2000, including four songs that have been hits in two separate eras ... everything from the Beach Boys to the Backstreet Boys, from Ritchie Valens to Ricky Martin, from classic rock to Kid Rock.

Instead of divulging the complete song list beforehand, we've been giving our readers the scoop on two new songs per week (the theme of the song plus hints as to what it's a parody of), to add to the mystery and the excitement. We're almost done with that process. Here are the two tracks featured this week:

Track #16
Song Title: "Last Night"

Did you ever feel like you'd done something so bad that God just couldn't forgive you? You're not alone. I'd imagine that the Apostle Peter was probably feeling something akin to that after he had denied Jesus for the third time. After Jesus was crucified, Peter was miserable (Matthew 26:75 says that "he went outside and wept bitterly"). But Peter had forgotten about and hadn't properly understood all the times when Jesus had predicted his crucifixion and resurrection. This song is sung from Peter's perspective the day after he denied Jesus, before he knew that Jesus was resurrected. The original song we spoofed here was a hit for three different artists in three different eras -- 1964, 1974 and 1999 -- and it's one of only two songs in the history of the pop charts to hit #2 (without hitting #1) twice (in 1964 and 1999). The other song was "MacArthur Park" by Richard Harris and Donna Summer. Of course, "MacArthur Park" was sad enough, with its story of a cake getting left out in the rain. But the song we spoofed here was much sadder, because the lead singer loses the love of his life.

Track #17
Song Title: "Once Livin' Twice Died"

This song is the story of a woman who comes to a point in her life in which she realizes she needs to get right with God, and the title is based on a bumper sticker you may have seen before that reads, "Born twice, die once. Born once, die twice." Some people probably scratch their heads and wonder what that means. Many folks don't know that the Bible not only talks about being born again (for believers) in John 3:3 and 1 Peter 1:23, but it speaks of a second death (for unbelievers). Rev. 20:14 says "The lake of fire is the second death." Rev. 2:11 and Rev. 20:6 also mention the second death. Just as being born again doesn't mean crawling back into the womb, the second death doesn't mean an end to a person's existence. Being born again is a spiritual birth, and the second death is a spiritual death. The Bible teaches that the soul does not cease to exist, whether its final destination is Heaven or the Lake of Fire. Those final destinations are made clear at a time and place (in Revelation 20) that Bible scholars call the Great White Throne Judgment. That's kind of ironic, once you realize the name of the '80's hair band whose #5 hit we spoofed for this song.

CD RELEASE PARTY

We now have an official date and time for our Pittsburgh CD release party for "Spoofernatural":

Saturday, November 25 (two days after Thanksgiving) at 2 p.m. That seemed to be the overwhelming choice of those of you who responded to our previous e-mails. It'll be held at the brand new Family Christian Store in Robinson Town Centre in Pittsburgh, PA, and the band will be on hand to sign the CDs and chat. There may be some "live" performances, too, but we have to get all the logistics worked out before I can tell you for sure. The CD will be available several days earlier on Tuesday, November 21, but we want to make it easier for more of our friends to come to the party, and a big shopping-weekend day seemed like a better bet than a school/work night.

*****

OUR PLAN FOR THE NEW CD

If you've already heard this next part, we apologize. We've been adding hundreds and hundreds of e-mails to our list lately, and we need to make sure nobody misses out on any important information.

Our current plan is to make the "Spoofernatural" CD available only to stores for the first two weeks (and after that it'll be available on the website), because we want to encourage people to buy it in the stores, for two main reasons:
1. We want the stores to realize how many of you are out there (If your store doesn't stock us, ask them to order it), and
2. If all of our fans buy the CD when it is released there is a chance that we will hit the national album sales charts, because when you purchase a CD at a Christian bookstore, that sale is recorded and sent to the record-keeping publications that chart records. "Biblical Graffiti" has sold thousands and thousands of copies, but that was over the past nine months. If we sell a large amount in the first week of the CD's release, it will definitely draw the attention of DJs, concert promoters, stores, and others in CCM music and the music industry in general.

Watch for our full-page color ad on the inside cover of the December issue of CCM Magazine.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1) Please pray for us -- that we do all things for the glory of God and to the best of our ability.

2) Find the Christian bookstore near you and go see if they have ApologetiX. If they don't, please tip them off that hundreds of stores around the world are carrying ApologetiX. (Maybe find the name of another store in the area from http://www.apologetix.com/stores.html and tell your store that the other store is already stocking us.)

3) Tell your local store that they can order through their major distributors, Ingram/Spring Arbor, Riverside or New Day.

4) Give your local store the phone number of our retail relationship manager, Tim Hetchler. Tim personally takes care of all the stores who carry ApologetiX. He makes sure they have everything they need and they get the best deal. Tim is a great guy and also represents Billy Graham, so they may already know him.

Tim Hetchler Wesscott Marketing 1.800.788.0442

5) Mark your calendar and try to be at your neighborhood store on Tuesday, November 21, 2000, in your ApologetiX T-shirt (still available at http://www.apologetix.com/cds.html). You can pick up your copy of "Spoofernatural," and help show support for your favorite Christian parody band. (If you're feeling particularly obnoxious and giddy, you can ask out loud, "Excuse me, do you have "Spoofernatural," the new CD from ApologetiX, That Christian Parody Band!?")

1 Peter 1:23

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
