Bus Drivers Needed
Tue., Apr. 28. 2009 4:15pm EDT
Would you or somebody you know be interested in driving the ApologetiX bus on a weekend this year?
Thus far, eight brave men have done all the driving for us since we introduced our tour bus almost two years ago. We love them all, and they've all become good friends of ours ... but even those eight guys can't drive every weekend we need.
This past weekend, we couldn't find a driver, and our bass player, Keith Haynie, had to do it. He's very capable, but he also had to unload, set up, play a concert, take down and pack up, which left him exhausted.
Any person who drives our bus should have experience driving buses or trucks. We have a 40-foot bus plus a 16-foot railer. You'd need to arrive at our home base near Pittsburgh on Thursday night or early Friday morning.
You should also be a male, because you're going to be driving a bus full of guys.
It's not a paying job, but it does have its rewards. All of the guys who've driven for us have either returned for additional trips or have expressed interest in doing so. We'll take care of your food and lodging, and, of course, you get free admission to all concerts any weekend you drive. We'll also reimburse you for your gas expenses in driving to Ellwood City PA (and back to your home), where our bus is located.
We don't take the bus every weekend. For example, we'll be flying to our concerts this month in Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Florida, although we need a driver for the concerts on May 15-16 in New York and New Hampshire. We generally drive to concerts east of the Mississippi River and north of the deep South.
If we have a Sunday concert scheduled for the weekend you volunteer, you'd be driving us back on Sunday night, so you wouldn't get back to your own home until sometime on Monday. If we don't have a Sunday concert, you'd be driving us back Sunday morning.
