Sail on, Trailer
Mon., Jul. 13. 2009 10:58pm EDT
Thanks to all of you who responded to our recent newsletter article about bringing the ApologetiX trailer home from Arkansas. We had at least 15 different fans volunteer to help, and we're still receiving emails about it.
As it worked out, Rabbi Vann Lantz and his wife, Valerie, drove from their home near Elizabethtown KY to Lake City AR to pick up the trailer on July 2. After spending the night in Arkansas, they drove the trailer back to Louisville KY, where Troy Adams took it to Randy Preece in Columbus OH. Two days later, Randy drove it Pittsburgh PA, where ApologetiX alumnus bassist Jerry "Plastico" Hayostek met him and took it in for repairs.
Jerry also took the bus and had a crew of helpers working on it to design and install a special, custom-made, industrial-strength trailer hitch on the bus. We still have many repairs left to make on the bus, but the trailer-hitch problem seems to be solved, and that means it should be roadworthy for this coming weekend. Thank you, Jerry, Vann, Valerie, Troy, and Randy!
For the record, our trailer is a big, black 16-footer that we nicknamed "Darth Trailer" when we first got it in November 2006, thanks largely to the efforts and generosity of another fan, Randy Reason, in Michigan. Although we take great pains to pack it carefully and actually haul some of our equipment in the bus, this trailer is pretty much at full capacity and takes quite a beating as it travels down the highway. It'll need major renovations or replacement soon.
We greatly appreciate the sacrifices these friends made to help us out. We've said it before, and we'll say it again: We have the best fans in the world!
