Rich Polick: 100,000-Mile Man
Mon., Apr. 26. 2010 12:02pm EDT

ApologetiX bus driver extraordinaire Rich Polick reached another major milestone this past weekend. He has now driven over 100,000 miles in his travels to and from ApologetiX concerts -- some in our bus and some in his car.

Rich, who is a professional driver in his regular job for Con-way Freight, has already driven over 1 million miles for them. So the time he's volunteered for us is almost like a tithe. And he gives that tithe willingly and generously.

Our tither driver also holds the ApologetiX fan record for most concerts attended (205), most states/provinces (34), and most consecutive months with at least one concert attended (48). His daughter, Marie, holds the female fan record for most concerts attended (129) and most provinces/states (25).

Rich is an extremely conscientious driver who takes his job very seriously, even when he's volunteering for us. He maps out our trips in advance, making sure we take best route possible. He diligently follows the rules of the road, monitors our fuel situation, and watches for things that will need repaired on the bus. And once we reach a concert venue, he helps us with a number of things behind-the-scenes.

We only wish we had a highlight-reel video to show you some of the challenging parking situations Rich has faced (and conquered) at concert venues and hotels afterward, including this past weekend. And he provides all of these services at no charge. He even supplies free political advice. And he gives that willingly and generously, too. :)

Rich gives up most of his vacation time to drive the bus. What's more, when he can't get time off to drive for us on a Friday, he'll often drive on his own to see us on a Saturday. And he's always trying to make new fans for us, having purchased countless copies of our CDs to distribute to others.

Come to think of it, it's kind of ironic that someone who thinks so conservatively gives so liberally -- both his time and his resources.

But after all this time, he remains a true fan. But more importantly, he is a true friend who genuinely cares about the members of ApologetiX, their families, and their fans. That's why we consider him to be more than a fan and more than a friend; he's family.
