J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

I'm trying to get an early start on this week's newsletter, so I'm writing to you at the airport in Gulfport MS, at about 5 a.m. CST, while we're waiting for our flight. The two concerts at Spirit Fest went well. The people were friendly, the weather was great, and we got a chance to briefly meet Steve, the guitarist from Burlap to Cashmere.

In an effort to keep things fresh for the fans who came to see us both days, we played entirely different sets with only one repeat song, "Narrow Way to Heaven" ... and that was only because a 63-year-old man drove 100 miles to see us on Sunday and specifically requested that song. We're constantly amazed at how far people will travel to see little ol' us. For the Gulfport shows, one group of fans drove 500 miles and another group drove 400 miles! We'll be back in that general vicinity May 1, when we play Grace 2004 in Pensacola FL.

This coming weekend we play in two college towns: State College PA, home of Penn State University, and Johnson City NY, home of Practical Bible College. Friday's concert in Johnson City NY is our first concert ever to be subject to an official boycott/protest. Apparently, some local churches opposed to rock music have written some threatening letters to the college and have encouraged people not to attend. Please pray that God opens the hearts and minds of those involved, so we can show them how and why we do what we do. Thanks to our friends at WVOA and ChristianBEATS who have worked hard to publicize the concert!

Oh, one important reminder for you: This Wednesday, March 31, is the final day of our best CD sale ever. Till then, all 10 of our CDs are on sale for $7 each. You can order online with your ATM or credit card till the clock strikes midnight EST. If you're ordering via snail mail, make sure your order is postmarked by March 31. 4. REVIEWS IN CHRISTIAN MUSICIAN MAGAZINE & PLUGGED IN MAGAZINE

The latest issues of Christian Musician Magazine and Plugged In Magazine both feature nice reviews of our latest CD, "Adam Up." Plugged In Magazine is a Focus on the Family publication designed to help equip parents, youth leaders, ministers and teens with the essential tools that will enable them to understand, navigate and impact the culture in which they live. Plugged In features penetrating editorials and cutting-edge analysis of entertainment and cultural trends, along with first-run music and television reviews. Christian Musician Magazine, meanwhile, is specifically geared to (surprise!) Christian musicians. It includes interviews with Christian musicians, articles about instruments and other equipment, plus album reviews.

FROM PLUGGED IN MAGAZINE:

"'We're in a parody band/We're here to share with the fans/We've got a two-part style/We'll tell you part's Weird Al/The other part's Billy Graham.' In a nutshell, that's ApologetiX's mission statement. It's also a line from their eighth CD, 'Adam Up," a collection of 22 biblical parodies of modern hits by legendary groups (Three Dog Night, The Everly Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KC & the Sunshine Band) as well as acts hot with teens (The Calling, Five for Fighting, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Eminem, Toby Keith, System of a Down).

"Old Testament history gets hip on 'Meschach,' a tale of the fiery furnace set to the tune of 'Love Shack' by the B-52's. Other songs tell of Daniel in the lions' den and Laban's deception of Jacob. New Testament events include Christ feeding the 5,000, the resurrections of Jairus' daughter and Eutychus, and Jesus healing people with saliva (a clever cut called 'The Spittle,' tweaking Jimmy Eat World's 'The Middle'). After recording nearly 175 parodies, these guys continue to fill each new disc with GREAT material."

FROM CHRISTIAN MUSICIAN MAGAZINE:

"ApologetiX is difficult to critique in a normal fashion. Specializing in parodies of songs from the 50's to today, the band is certainly clever in its use of popular song to teach biblical truth, satirize current cultural trends and evangelize the lost in a valid and entertaining way. Calling "Adam Up" a valid artistic statement may be a stretch, but the band plays with such unbridled joy and tongue-in-cheek aplomb that it hardly matters.

"Indeed "Adam Up" contains the most credible musical performances yet found on an ApologetiX disc, with the female-vocal-aided "Meshach" (the B-52's "Love Shack"), Scottish-accented "I'm Gonna Feed (500 Mouths)" and Ozzy Osbourne skewering "Lazy Brain" being strong evidence of the band's improvement. More-modern fare includes a solid, exhortational call for souls that parodies Eminem's "Lose Yourself" ("Look Yourself") and is full of pop culture references, and "Called My Wife," a tome to the deceptive power of the enemy to the tune of The Foo Fighters' "All My Life."

"The true gift of ApologetiX is a unique ability to use the hook of pop music to effectively communicate solid biblical truth in a way that is both fun and infectious, and in the process, reach an audience that may never listen to Christian radio but would immediately recognize tunes by Good Charlotte, Judas Priest or Sum 41 ... a niche to be sure, but a very effective one."

5. FUNNY EMAIL OF THE WEEK

We get hundreds of emails a week, and we really do read them all, and we try to answer as many as possible as fast as we can. Here's one from Liz Weed that tickled our funny bone:

"Hey i just got ur cd adam up. I just cant stop listening to it. I like the song "Little Red bible Book" my sister hates it for some reason. g2g i have to restart the cd. bye"
