J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Hope all is well with you. I'm typing this on my living room couch on Wednesday shortly before midnight. Thanks to everybody who showed up to see us last weekend in Ellsworth/Bangor ME (Yeah, we got to drive past Stephen King's house), Cincinnati OH (We played between ZOEGirl and Tait, and I got to meet the wife of Dennis Yost, lead singer for the '60's band the Classics IV, who had hits like "Traces," "Spooky," "Stormy," and "Every Day With You Girl") and Waynesboro VA (the transmission on our van is slipping again, so it was exciting just being able to get to that concert and to get home, but Pastor Mike's excitement for the concert made it special from the start).

We've got a full weekend of Labor Day excitement planned. On Friday, our lead guitarist/producer Karl Messner will be live in the studio at KNLE in Austin for the morning and afternoon drive shows, getting folks geared up for our big concert Saturday night. Our KNLE concerts are huge affairs. Austin has been called the "live music capital of the world," and that's certainly held true for us.

In honor of that, we'll be recording our Austin concert Saturday night, and we plan to release some of those tracks on an upcoming ApologetiX CD! So if you've always wanted to have your vocals on an ApologetiX CD, this is your big chance!

The Austin concert is a special fundraiser for radio station KNLE. We'll also be running a special on our CDs at the Austin concert -- $7 each and 3 for $20! This is the only time we've ever offered such a sale at a concert. All that plus Bill Hubauer on keyboards for the first time in Texas. What more could you ask for?

Sunday, we're headlining at Kingdom Bound by the Bay in Erie, PA, an event that usually draws about 7000 people. We've played at the original Kingdom Bound (by the Buffalo) five times since 1999, and it's an honor just to be asked to play this one, let alone to headline the event our very first time there. Thanks to Joel, Ron and Mark at WCTL in Waterford/Erie PA, who have done so much to introduce that area of the country to ApologetiX!

Monday, we do something that's pretty much unheard of, at least for us; we play in New England a second time in the span of two weeks! Last weekend it was Maine, this weekend it's New Hampshire. We generally do about one concert per year in New England. As New Englanders themselves have told us, New England is one of the toughest areas to find Christian rock concerts, aside from the annual Inside Out Soul Festival, where we've played a couple of times before. Do your part to help us buck the trend and spend your Labor Day in Walpole NH with ApologetiX.

4. Karl's Korner: Why You Should Come to Austin Saturday

Karl Messner, lead guitarist and producer for ApologetiX here.

Hey, we're having a "famly reunion" of sorts this weekend. Folks from far and wide are converging on Austin, TX for the big ApologetiX Concert this Saturday. And we have several special things for them:

1) We're going to record part of the concert for use on our next CD!!! A couple major audience participation numbers- you get to hear yourself on CD!

2) We're bringing the $7 sale on the road with us for that show only! And we're going one step further and offering 3 for $20. Grab those CDs while you can!!!

3) AWESOME sound and light show at the Round Rock Performing Arts Center. It's amazing.

And if you absolutely can't make it, You can listen to me on the radio with the morning show and afternoon show Friday 7-9 CDT and 3-6 CDT at http://www.knle.com

5. Want to Book a Fall Concert?

Usually, if you waited till September 1 to book a fall concert with ApologetiX, you might have to wait till the fall of 2005. Not this year. If you'd like to book a fall concert with ApologetiX, you picked the perfect time to do so. Here's why:

For most of this year, we had special plans that were going to keep us occupied for most of the fall from mid-October through early December. Consequently, we did not book any concerts on those weekends. However, we have decided to change those plans, and those weekend dates are now available, although our booking agent, Kathleen Burke of Burke Communications, working hard to fill them in as quickly as possible.

If you'd like more information about booking a fall concert with ApologetiX, please contact Kathleen Burke at booking@apologetix.com or Burke Communications at 949-770-3001 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST).

6. Update on the "Downer of a Sister" Single & Video

"Downer of a Sister" (parody of System of a Down's "Chop Suey), the third single from our "Adam Up" CD, has added three more stations in the past week, and is now spinning on 45 stations. Thanks to everyone who contacted stations on the list we supplied last week.

Not to sound like a broken record (or CD), but "Downer of a Sister" is a pretty loud song, so there are a number of stations who ordinarily play ApologetiX but are still considering whether to play this single. Your input influences their decision.

The video for the project is finally complete and was sent out to Christian video shows and stations today. It's one of the craziest things we've ever recorded, and the test marketing we've done with it has gotten a really good response. If you thought the song was funny, wait till you see the video! It'll soon be in the hands of about 10,000 youth pastors all over the country

If you'd like to know if your favorite Christian video show/station has it, please email our lead guitarist, Karl Messner, at karl@apologetix.com, and he can tell you if they have it and who to contact if you want to see it on the air.

If you'd like to help with radio airplay, here's that list again of the radio stations that are still undecided:

AOL Christian Music Channels (Internet) CJLF Life 100.3 (Barrie ON) CKCU (Ottawa ON) Commission Christian Radio Productions (Syndicated) Jones Radio Network (Consulting Firm) KAIM (Honolulu HI) KCLC (St. Louis/St. Charles MO) KGNZ Light Brigade (Lubbock/Abilene/Graham/Snyder TX) KOKF (Oklahoma City OK) KRNG Renegade Radio (Wadsworth NV) KSBJ Light Force (Houston/Galveston TX) Latin CCM (Network in South America) The X Station (Internet) WAYK/WAYG (Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids MI) WBHY (Mobile AL & Pensicola FL) WBOP (Harrisonbug VA) WCLQ (Wausau/Stevens Point WI) WERR (San Juan PR) WIBV/The Alien (Mt. Vernon/Central & Southern IL) WJIS/WLPJ (Sarasota/Tampa Bay FL) WLSR/The Other Side (Galesburg IL) WMKL/The Call (Key Largo/Miami) WOLR (Jacksonville/Gainesville/Tallahassee FL) WORQ Q-90 (Green Bay WI) WSCF (Ft. Pierce/Stuart/Vero Beach FL) WSNL (Flint MI) WYSZ Yes FM (Toledo/Wauseon/Fremont/Lima OH)

Thanks for your help!

7. Feedback from Virginia Concert

Our concert last Sunday in Waynesboro VA was a blast! The place was packed, and we fed off the energy of the audience, which is a good thing, because we had three power outages in the first half of the concert before things got worked out! No wonder another Pennsylvania-based group, Train, said they couldn't "wait to meet Virginia." Here are two wonderful emails we received in response to the concert, one from the pastor of the host church and another from a couple who attended:

"Great concert Sunday night! You guys not only did a wonderful job entertaining us, but the Gospel message came through loud and clear. My prayer is that lives were changed and souls were saved because you guys care enough about the eternity of others. God bless you all and I certainly hope to have the ApologetiX back in Waynesboro real soon." Pastor Mike Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene Waynesboro, VA

"My husband and I saw your 'show' at our church in Waynesboro VA last night. All we can say is WOW!!!! We have worked with youth ministry in the past and have taken youth to many conferences, etc., and we have never seen youth respond like they did to ApologetiX! We were "blown away". I especially loved the way you included the kids and let the them get close to you during your performance. What a blessing you are to those of us who love to ROCK with the Good News of JESUS! May the Lord continue to bless you in your ministry. You will be in our prayers."

Rick and Bev Winter

8. Belize, Belize Me

We are always honored when we hear about our parodies being used for missionary purposes, both in the states and all over the world. This week, we got this email from a missionary in Belize:

"Your music is outstanding and the people of Belize love it! My wife and I have been short-term missionaries here for almost two years. Keep puttin' out the hits!! CJ Hitz Belize, Central America

9. Please Help Our Former Drummer Fred

O.K., you know we don't ask you to do much in these newsletters except to come to our concerts if you can and to vote for us in the occasional poll if you so desire. Unfortunately, I got news this week that our former drummer Fred Behanna has hit upon some incredibly hard financial situations, having spent all of his money and time in recent years on his daughter Beth's repeated bouts with Hodgkin's Disease. Fred is a man of faith and perseverance, but the constant alternating of good news followed by bad news has taken its toll on both him and Beth, and the situation has taken its toll on Fred's finances. Things are really bad. Fred's a hard worker -- a guy who's been known to have three or four jobs at a time to support his kids as a single father while they were growing up (They're all in their early 20's.)

We'd like to ask you to do one or more of the following three things:
1. Most importantly, please pray for Fred and his daughter Beth. You know how to do that.
2. If you want to encourage Fred, please email him at fred@apologetix.com.
3. If you feel led to give, please send a financial gift to Fred (He did not ask us to do this, and he doesn't even know that we know about this situation, but the Bible says we're supposed to bear one another's burdens). You can make the check out to "Fred Behanna" and send it to Fred Behanna, 478 Seventh St., Donora PA 15033. Thank you.
