The #1 Alternative is ApologetiX?

You know, when ApologetiX first started out, we focused primarily on classic rock. About a decade ago, however, we made a conscious effort to extend our focus to include alternative/modern rock, because we were receiving so many invitations to play youth events. Missionaries (even "musicianaries," as Karl likes to call us) need to speak the language of the people they're trying to reach, so we immersed ourselves in and familiarized ourselves with the music that was popular with youth. Those efforts have paid off; we feel equally comfortable playing both classic and modern rock, and we've been able to reach several different generations with the Gospel message.
And, much to our surprise, we're even topping the alternative/modern rock charts -- with both singles and albums. Our latest single, "JC's Mom," is #1 for the fourth consecutive week on the Alternative/Modern Rock charts in this week's issue (2/12/05) of the American Christian Music Journal. Our latest album, "New & Used Hits: The Best of ApologetiX Vol. 1 & 2," is also #1 this week on the Alternative/Modern Rock Albums chart, a spot it first hit in the 12/24/04 issue. Our previous ApologetiX CD, "Adam Up," hit #1 on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart in May/June 2004, yielding a #1 Christian Rap/Hip Hop single, "Look Yourself," in January 2004, and a #2 Modern/College single, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Nameless" in May 2004.
At the 2004 American Christian Music Awards, ApologetiX received awards for Alternative Artist of the Year and Alternative Song of the Year ("Lifestyles of the Rich & Nameless").
There are a couple of lessons to be learned here: First and foremost, with God, all things are possible. Second, if you feel God is leading you in particular area, trust Him to enable you to excel in that area, whether you feel qualified or not. As it says in Ephesians 3:20, God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us."
