Last Weekend in Kansas & Nebraska
Mon., Jul. 25. 2005 6:31pm EDT
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time this past weekend in Phillipsburg KS, El Dorado KS, and Lincoln NE. There are so many people to thank and special notes to make that we broke it down concert by concert:
FRIDAY IN PHILLIPSBURG KS
Thanks to Ken and Linda Artz and Ed "Alien Leader" Macke, who coordinated the concert; to Ed's wife, Arlene, and her assistant, Amanda, who took care of the merchandise table; and to Tim and Eric, who ran the sound. Ken and Linda put us up (and put up with us) that night at their own luxurious bed and breakfast, the Brass Leopard. If you're ever in the Phillipsburg area, we highly recommend it. It has its own secret garden, fish pond, ice cream gazebo, wood-fired oven, Internet service and much more.
It also was great to finally meet Pastor Paul Julian, who's been an ApologetiX fan for many years, but missed us our first two times in the state. And thanks to the missionary team from Ohio who caught their first ApologetiX show in Kansas!
SATURDAY IN EL DORADO KS
Thanks to Dave Kerwood, who organized the concert (along with Pastor Bill) and sang for the opening band, the El Dorado Presbyterian Church "Saturday Night Live" worship band. Thanks also to Jessica the sound lady and to Neil and Virginia, who handled the merchandise table, organizing it to an extent we've seldom seen before.
Other special guests on hand included Christy Jarvis, who coordinated our 2003 concert in Emporia KS (and helped us find a repair shop and rental vehicles); Sarah May, a long-time ApologetiX superfan in Kansas who has prayed, begged, contacted radio stations, etc., in hopes of finally seeing us in concert; and our old friend Drew Walker (and his wife Karen) from KHCA in Manhattan KS, who was probably the first DJ in the state to play ApologetiX, and who organized our first trip to the state back in 2000. Thanks also to the guy who loaded us up with a bag of goodies to go along with the individual bags Sarah made.
SUNDAY IN LINCOLN NE
Thanks to Randy Nelson, who set up the concert, with help from Pastor Greg and Darrell the youth pastor. Thanks also to Randy's wife, Kathy, who supervised the merchandise table, and to Carl the sound man.
Thanks also to Marv Chauza, ministry relations representative with Lincoln-based Back to the Bible Ministries (you've probably heard their radio broadcast with Dr. Woodrow Kroll), who contacted us ahead of time to welcome us to Nebraska and also went to dinner with us along with his wife, Terry. Honorable mention goes to three other ApologetiX fans: Sapphira and her mom, who drove four hours to see us, and Dan who asked us to autograph his car, joining the likes of Project 86. Thanks also to the two seminary-school grads who said the encouraging words to J. after the show.
