This Past Weekend in PA & NC
Mon., Sep. 26. 2005 10:01pm EDT
Thanks to all of our old and new fans who came to see us this past weekend in State College PA, where there's no doubt who the favorite sports team is, and Asheboro NC, where they split their support among North Carolina, NC State, Duke, and Wake Forest.
We had the honor of closing the Rock Invasion '05 at Penn State (in the center of campus), and the late-night Autumn outdoor atmosphere was awesome. Thanks to Andrew Shaffer, who coordinated the all-day event, along with his extremely helpful staff, including Erin, James #1, and James #2. Thanks also to Jenn the Superchick, Dayna and Jen #2 for coordinating our CD table. It was also great to see our old pal Erik Lane from Rev FM.
Although the concert in Asheboro was held at a high school, there was a tremendous theater inside where the concert was held, and it was filled with an enthusiastic crowd. Thanks to Frankie "Pookie" Gentry, who took care of everything from setting up the concert to picking us up at the airport to taking us back to the hotel. Thanks also to Mark, who drove the church bus (nicest church bus we've ever experienced) to and from the airport, and to Beth for running the CD table.
Both of the concerts came on the heels of big (at least to us) football games that were decided in the final seconds. On Saturday, Penn State came from behind for a last-minute win against Northwestern, so the locals were happy, as were we, since we follow both Penn State and Pitt (except our drummer, Bill "Moose" Rieger, who likes Pitt too much to be able to root for Penn State in good conscience :)
On Sunday, we discovered late in the game (both figuratively and literally) that the T.V. sitting in the corner backstage actually worked, so we were able to watch the end of the Steelers-Patriots clash while getting dressed for the show (Note: Don't watch a "clash" while you get dressed, or your clothes might not match!) Unfortunately, that turned out not to be such a blessing after all, when Pittsburgh lost with on a New England field goal with one second left to play.
Don't worry, non-Steeler fans; this weekend they have a bye-week, so that means you get a week off from hearing us talk about them.
