3. LAST TWO CONCERTS BEFORE THE BABY: TENNESSEE AND PENNSYLVANIA
As most of you know, my wife, Lisa, is expecting to deliver a baby on May 21. Consequently, the band has graciously made plans to take time off before and after that date to try to help ensure that I would be there for the blessed event. The following two concerts are the last two scheduled before our self-imposed hiatus. Please pray that if it be God's will, He would let the baby wait till after these concerts (the last scheduled concert is still 10 days before the due date, but God has the final say), so we don't have any schedule conflicts. Thanks!

4. OUR NEW CD, GRACE PERIOD: CLUES #3 & #4
If you've been paying attention, you know that we recently announced the upcoming summer release of our seventh CD, "Grace Period," which is slated to contain 20 parodies of rock hits from yesterday and today. As promised, we're giving you clues as to what those songs will be ó what our parody version is about and what song/artist we're spoofing. Here are clues #3 and #4:
#3 "Sufferin' Just Finished"
The choruses of this song focus on Esther, and God's deliverance of the Jews through her, but the verses are all about the villain of that story, Haman. Although the Book of Esther never mentions God by name, His presence is apparent in the miraculous deliverance of the Jews from Haman's plans and the fact that Esther asked the Jews to fast for three days for her (Esther 4:16), which wouldn't make sense if they weren't trying to seek God's help, and that Mordecai told her that "relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews," whether Esther intervened or not. The artist who performed the song we are spoofing has certainly been through a lot of changes on the road to fame. He's changed his look and his sound many times, but he started out by changing his name, which used to be the same as the lead singer for another famous band. Back to the artist we are spoofing: His golden years were from the mid-70's through the mid-80's, which is when he was most popular with young Americans for his statements on fashion as well as modern love. The song we are spoofing was originally the flip side of a single, not intended to be the hit, but it's been a major FM album rock hit for 30 years. The A side never really did become a hit, going to #65 in 1972, although there was a movie with the same title and a similar theme in the 1980's. The B side has stood the test of time, though, as has the album it came from, which shares the same name as a concert promoter we played a concert for this past fall in Wisconsin. Call this artist an oddity or just a rebel, he's had two #1 hits, one with a guest appearance by John Lennon and another with a guest appearance by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Believe it or not, this track has a "sister" song on the Mary Poppins soundtrack!
#4 "Drop of Lucifer"
No, we're not talking about adding a "drop of Lucifer" to a recipe, we're talking about the fall (drop) of Satan as described in Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28 and the book of Revelation. I don't like to bring too much attention to the devil, but there are two songs about him on this CD, and I hope both of them will help the listener to understand what the Bible says about him. The bad news is he is for real, he is a person, and he comes to kill, steal and destroy. The good news is that God is infinitely more powerful than the devil, who is only a created person, so it's not some yin and yang thing. The devil can only do what God permits him to do, and God has already shown us what the outcome is going to be in Revelation. He isn't even around for the last two chapters of the Bible! He's already in the Lake of Fire by then. This is a parody of a song that was a Top Five hit in 2001, and was still in the Top 50 a few weeks ago. It's been on the charts for over a year now. Our parody's similar title makes it pretty obvious what the song is ... if you're familiar with today's pop music. If you're not, well, the original song sounds like the singer for the Black Crowes singing to Elton John's band circa his "Madman Across the Water" and "Honky Chateau" days. I thought that when I first heard it, and then I talked to roommate from college for the first time in years, and he agreed with me 100% -- and it's no mean feat to get him to do that! I wonder if the band had to train to get that sound or if it just came naturally.
5. A NEW TESTAMENT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT?
As you probably know, God prophesied about the coming of Christ throughout the Old Testament many times. Did you know that God also promised a New Covenant (Testament) about 600 years before Christ, in the book of Jeremiah? Check this out:
Jeremiah 31:31-34
31???"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. 32???It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, " declares the LORD. 33???"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34???No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, `Know the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Pretty cool, isn't it?
