3. REMINDER: APOLOGETIX AT GMA WEEK IN NASHVILLE

We mentioned this last week, but it bears repeating. From April 21-25, ApologetiX lead guitarist/producer Karl Messner will be at GMA Week in Nashville along with our booking agent/publicist, Kathleen Burke. If you'll be attending GMA Week and would like to schedule an interview, liners or something else with Karl and/or Kathleen, please contact Kathleen at pr@apologetix.com.

4. OUR NEW CD, GRACE PERIOD: CLUES #1 & #2

In case you missed our announcement Monday, we announced the upcoming summer release of our seventh CD, "Grace Period," which is slated to contain 20 parodies of rock hits from yesterday and today. As we promised, we'll be giving you clues about what those songs will be ó what our parody version is about and what song/artist we're spoofing. Here are your first two clues:

#1 "Born Above"
Judging by the titles of the two biggest albums for the artist we're spoofing here, he's been born twice, although not quite the way we're singing about in this song. "Born Above" is the story of Nicodemus and his conversation with Jesus, as related in John 3:1-21, in which Jesus told Nicodemus "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." If you have a Bible with notes, it may tell you that the phrase "born again" can also be translated "born from above." The New Geneva Study Bible says, "It is possible that both meanings are intended ó a new birth that is a birth from above." Now back to the original artist. It's about time we covered him; after all he's been shouting "Cover me!" since 1987. He's been around since the 1970's, although his glory days were in the 1980's. He's had quite a few number one albums, but his biggest single only went to #2, but the video helped launch the career of future "Friends" star Courteney Cox. I've been waiting for us to do this parody for a long time. It's one of my favorites lyric-wise, and it's been on our "to do" list for the past three CDs!

#2 "Corinthians"
The song we're spoofing here is a hit from this year, and of all the current acts we've been asked to spoof, the group that does this song is the most requested, which isn't surprising, considering their current album has sold seven million copies already! The original song talks about love gone wrong that has ended in bitterness, turning out not to be love at all. Our parody talks about real love as described in 1 Corinthians 13, "the LOVE chapter." It's easy to take that chapter for granted, because it gets read at weddings all the time, but it's not just about marital love. It's about the love we are supposed to have for everyone, and it's not just the stuff of greeting cards (no offense to my father-in-law, who is a rep for American Greetings!). This parody has been difficult to write, not just because there are a lot of words to the original, but also because as I have been studying love as described in 1 Corinthians 13, I am constantly reminded of how much I miss the mark. But another thing that has hit me is the fact that 1 John 4:8 says "God is love," so those characteristics of love described in 1 Corinthians 13 are all attributes of God, which is very comforting to me! The group that does this song is one of three current artists on "Grace Period" (there were almost four!) who apparently don't know how to spell. If they'd check out "Radical History Tour," they might have a clue!

5. SONICFLOOD SOUNDS IN ON "KEEP THE CHANGE"

If you've been following contemporary Christian music, you've probably encountered Sonicflood, whose first two albums, "Sonicflood" and "Sonicpraise," both made Billboard's Hot 200, with the former being certified gold for sales of over half a million copies. They have won a Dove award and been nominated for a Grammy. Their newest CD, "Resonate," is another top 10 hit on the Christian charts. I haven't checked the Billboard charts, but I imagine it made it there, too. Our guitarist/producer, Karl Messner, has been conversing with David Alan, keyboardist for Sonic Flood. Here are Dave's comments on our "Keep the Change" CD:

"Hey Karl, Thanks for the CD. I've been checking it out and it's hilarious! Sonically, it's fantastic - great job. Hope we can work together at some point. May God bless you guys."

:Dave Sonicflood

Of course, maybe he's just biased since he's in Sonicflood, and we have two songs about the Flood on "Keep the Change."

6. BRAZIL!

We got this e-mail from Brazil a couple week ago:

"I am from Brazil and it would like the letter of the music "come out and pray " and " bethlehemian rhapsody " would like to translate these music. It was very good." Anderson Araujo

7. I'LL HAVE THE CHICKEN WHOPPER AND THE APOLOGETIX CD

We gave a CD to a group of ladies we met at a Burger King recently and were pleasantly surprised to get this e-mail from one of their 20-year-old daughters:

"Hey you guys- Well I dunno if you remember meetin' some "mom" in Burger King on your way to Austin for a show- but this is her twin daughters e-mailing you..... You gave us a signed copy of your CD - I've seen it in the Christian bookstores- and just so you know- the guy that worked there in TEXARKANA- recommended it- so I was impressed when my mom said she actually got to meet all of you- (by the way- she thought y'all were funny and really cool - comin from a 45-year-old mom I guess that's a good compliment right...haha) We love rock and me (Kelsey) and Kimberly thought your CD was cool- it really made us laugh to.... Just wanted you to know that some 20-year-old twins at college were interested in your music- you guys seem really fun and crazy ..." Always in Christ, Kelsey

8. COMMENT OF THE WEEK

We get a lot of great encouragement from people, including hundreds of e-mails a week, and we appreciate every single one and try to answer them all sooner or later.

I was doing an interview with YES-FM in Toledo OH last Thusday, and they said a guy named Randy had called in and said that "Old Time Romans Road" helped him lead his five-year-old daughter in a prayer for salvation, asking Jesus into her heart. He said he'd always had trouble before with that, but the song taught him the verses! Isn't that great?
