This Past Weekend in IN, KY & WV
Mon., Apr. 24. 2006 12:37pm EDT
Thanks to everybody who came to see us this past weekend in Indianapolis IN (Friday), Owensboro KY (Saturday), and Huntington WV (Sunday), the largest city in Indiana, the third-largest city in Kentucky, and the second-largest city in West Virginia.
We had guests come from as far away as St. Louis (245 miles) to Friday's concert. One poor couple drove over three hours to the concert and got lost, missing virtually the entire show, so a couple of band members went out to eat with them afterward.
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, Saturday's concert was a private secular event -- a huge soccer banquet. It took the kids a little while to figure out what we were all about, but once they did, we had some good audience participation. We considered rewriting our Pink Floyd parody, "Kick in the Wall," as "Kickin' the Ball," but only for a second. :)
We did debut a new song Sunday night, attempting something we hadn't done since 1992, opening up a show with a song we'd never played before! We also discovered that not everyone in West Virginia is a fan of West Virginia University (WVU), especially when the concert is held Huntington, the home of WVU's in-state rival, Marshall University.
Honorable mention to our drummer, Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner, who contracted some kind of stomach virus in the middle of the night after Saturday's concert and still played like nothing was wrong on Sunday night. Special thanks to his wife, Eve, who drove four and half hours from home to surprise him in West Virginia and take care of him and also helped us with the sound mix and various other things.
Thanks also to:
our concert coordinators: Eric Phillippe (Indianapolis), Dan Douglas (Owensboro), and Ron LeMaster (Huntington).
our merchandise coordinators: Aaron (Indianapolis); Audra, Kim, Little Axl, Cheri Jo, Heerah, and Kate (Owensboro); and Tina, Debbie, and Casey (Huntington).
