3. APOLOGETIX IN SINGAPORE

I just got word that our CDs are now available in Singapore through a distributor there. Isn't that cool? I didn't know anybody knew who we were in Singapore. Do you suppose that all those people I thought were saying "Your singing is poor" were actually saying something about Singapore?

4. DON'T MESS WITH MY FOOT (BILL UPDATE)

Here's a January 10 update from our drummer, Bill, who severely injured his bass pedal foot at the beginning of our New Year's Eve concert in E. Rochester, NY, but who promises he'll be ready for the concerts this weekend:

"The foot is getting better, slowly but surely. The swelling is going down, but the bruising is getting worse, I am told that that is normal. My left foot is catching up. I am feeling confident that I will be ready in time for the shows, thanks to my instructor who gave me 54 punishing workouts for my left foot while playing (according to him, its not enough to play them like that he says," your good enough to do these, lets make it challenging ... play them BACKWARDS ) . Also many thanks to the overwhelming response from ApologetiX fans everywhere. It is very inspiring."

If you'd like to e-mail Bill, his e-mail is bill@apologetix.com

5. THE TRINITY

I get an e-mail last week from a new ager who claimed that Christians got the idea of the Trinity from the three phases of the moon. Needless to say, I couldn't let that comment go, so I sat down and composed a response to try and explain briefly why Christians believe in the Trinity. Of course, to really get into this topic, I'd have to write a book, and many people much wiser than I have written many books on the subject. However, I've edited the e-mail response I sent to that person, and I'd like to share it with you, because I think many of you will find it helpful. Here it is:

The concept of the Trinity is not something that Christians made up or borrowed from pagan religions. It comes from a variety of scriptures, both New and Old Testament, which show God as being one God in three Persons, the Father, the Son (the Word or Logos) and the Holy Spirit. Some people misinterpret this as Christians believing in three Gods, but this is not the case. They believe in one God, who is three persons. Hard to grasp? Yes, but so is the concept of God, a creator who always was and always will be. A mystery? Yes, but many things in the Bible are described as mysteries, including the fact that Christ was God, as it states in 1 Timothy 3:16:

"Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by the angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory."

The oldest verse in the Bible possibly suggesting a Trinity may be Genesis 1:26a, in which God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ..." Some say this is just a plural of majesty (i.e. "the royal 'We'") or that God is talking to angels in this text; however, others say that this is the first clue to the existence of the Trinity in the Bible.

Some people misunderstand the Trinity, and say, "Well, why would Jesus pray to the Father? He'd be praying to Himself!" They misunderstand the Trinity and forget its simple definition. One God, Three Persons. One person, Jesus, of the Godhead was talking to another, the Father. Others would say, "Why does Jesus say, 'The Father is greater than I?'" Note that Jesus doesn't say "The Father is BETTER than I." He just says Greater. And in the Trinity, the Father is the greatest in authority, but they are both God.

As Jesus says in John 15:26, "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, "He will bear witness of Me ..." Note that the Holy Spirit (the Bible is clear that the Spirit of Truth IS the Holy Spirit) proceeds from the Father, but is sent by Jesus. Each Person of the Trinity has a role, but each Person is God.

The Bible states clearly that the Father is God (Isaiah 63:16 and many, many other references), the Son is God (John 1:1, John 8:24, Hebrews 1:8, Titus 2:13, 2 Peter 1:1, Isaiah 9:6, and many, many more) and that the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4, 2 Corinthians 3:17 and others). And yet it is clear from the Bible that the Father is not the Son or the Spirit, the Son is not the Father or the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father or the Son. They are three Persons, but They are one God, Yahweh. The Persons interact with each other, showing that They are not the same person, and yet both the New and Old Testaments state again and again, that there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4, James 2:19 and many more verses to numerous to count.) As we pointed out earlier in 1 Timothy 3:16, "Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great."

Four of the best illustrations of the Trinity at work in the Bible are:

Creation The Bible says that the God the Father created the Earth and everything else (Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 64:8, and many more). Yet in Genesis 1:2, it says that the Holy Spirit was there at the time of Creation. Furthermore, in Colossians 1:16, it says that the Son, Jesus, created all things.

Christ's Resurrection In Acts 3:26, it shows that the Father raised Jesus from the dead. Yet in John 2:19, Jesus said that He would raise Himself from the dead. Romans 8:11 says it is the Holy Spirit who raised Christ from the dead.

Christ's Baptism When Jesus was baptized, He was standing in the water being baptized by God. The Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove, and the Father spoke from Heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)

The Great Commission Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He gave marching orders to His disciples. One of the things He said was that they should wait for the Holy Spirit to come, and He said that the Holy Spirit couldn't come if He (Jesus) didn't go away first. In John 16:7, Jesus says, "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." Also, in the last words of Jesus recorded in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus says, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

That was just a small sampling of the evidence in the Bible for the existence of the Trinity, but I hope you found it helpful.
