ApologetiX Fans: Serious and Moody?
Mon., Aug. 14. 2006 6:31pm EDT
Over the last 14 years in ApologetiX, we've developed a few "catch phrases" to describe what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. One of those is "We take the Bible very seriously; we just don't take ourselves too seriously."
LaFon Jenkins is a Michigan-based fan and friend who has probably heard us say that many times, as she has attended a number of concerts in both Michigan and Ohio (and often comes bearing home-baked cookies and other gifts). In fact, we won't be surprised if we see her at our concert this coming Sunday in Oregon OH. Last week, she sent us the following email:
Look what a neat verse I found in my reading the other day. Micah 6:8 from the Message:
"But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don't take yourself too seriously—take God seriously."
Hmmmm. . .I've heard that last part over and over. . .any idea where? :)
LaFon's son, Levi, is also an ApologetiX fan ... and a student at the world-renowned Moody Bible Institute (MBI). And not just any student -- for the spring 2006 semester, Levi made the Dean's List and was awarded highest honors for his 4.0 semester grade average. He just completed his first year in MBI's Educational Ministries department, with a major in Elementary Education.
The Educational Ministries department, in which Levi is studying, trains educators who are able to integrate studies in educational philosophy and theory with a biblical worldview for church and church-related organizations in diverse cultures and settings.
MBI was founded by evangelist Dwight Lyman Moody in 1886 and exists to equip and motivate people to advance the cause of Christ through ministries that educate, edify, and evangelize. MBI is best known for its education branch, which includes an undergraduate school, graduate school, and distance learning center. Other MBI ministries include Moody Publishers, Conference Ministries, and Moody Broadcasting.
We're proud of you, Levi! And your mom is, too. She adds:
Levi achieved this honor by being extremely motivated and working very hard. Even more importantly, the Lord has blessed Levi with the gift of discernment. He has the ability to "size up" a person or a situation and see what is really there. On occasion, we as parents, ask him what his "read" is on something. I'm happy to report that from the first time he was introduced to ApologetiX, he has declared that you guys are the real thing!
