This Past Weekend in PA & NY
Tue., Apr. 3. 2007 12:06am EDT
Peckville, Wampsville, and Tonawanda. They're ordinary small-town names like Cherilyn Sarkisian, Gordon Sumner, and Paul Hewson.
Of course, you know those latter three better as Cher, Sting, and Bono. Similarly, you know Pecksville, Wampsville, and Tonawanda better as three of the top metro areas in the United States: Scranton–Wilkes-Barre PA (#85), Syracuse NY (#79), and Buffalo–Niagara Falls NY (#47).
And that's where we played this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively. The places may have sounded unimpressive on paper, but they were plenty impressive in person ... and it's all because of the persons who were there. What's more, we had a great turnout at each event.
The mayor of Wampsville even came to Saturday's show, and she left gifts for us at our hotel, which was located across the street from the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Of course, she was probably ready to put on the gloves after our lead guitarist, Karl Messner, referred to Wampsville as "Wimpsville." But that was just to get people to be a little more vocal during an audience-participation number.
