J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.

Well be revisiting three of our favorite cities this weekend -- Cleveland OH, Rockford IL and Indianapolis IN -- and we'll be bringing a friend, ApologetiX keyboardist Bill Hubauer. If you've never seen us perform with Bill before, prepare for a new dimension in your ApologetiX experience. His presence allows us to play some songs we'd normally only attempt in the studio like "It's Not Eden" and "Devil Went Down to Jordan."

Bill also gives us a fuller sound on just about every other song, because he plays rhythm guitar when he isn't playing keyboards (Karl can and does play both lead and rhythm simultaneously when Bill isn't around, but it's nice to have a friend to share the load :) Look for Bill to be at more ApologetiX concerts in upcoming months. His schedule doesn't allow him to play them all, but it has opened up to the extent that he can play many more than before.

Five years ago, we played WQFL's 25th anniversary concert in Rockford, IL, with Petra, Broomtree, Temple Yard, Tammy Trent and Jenny Varnedeau, at a place called the Summerwood Amphitheater. At the time, it was the farthest west we'd ever played, and our very first festival with big-name artists. We played for free, because we felt like it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Well, in retrospect, that concert was a real turning point for ApologetiX.

God gave us incredible favor with the Illinois/Wisconsin crowd in Rockford that day, and although we were probably "low band on the totem pole" that day, the audience went crazy with every song, demanded an encore at the end (opening bands don't usually get those) and swarmed our CD table afterward. The line was so long that we were signing autographs for about two hours afterward without a break! The next day, there was a full-color photo of us on the front of the Rockford Register Star Sunday paper (Rockford is a city of about 150,000 people), and the overflow page featured a number of other photos of ApologetiX and the crowd reacting to us. Other performers were also featured, but somehow God worked out so we got some extremely biased (toward us) media coverage :)

Word Records sales rep Keith Harrold was with us that day, filling in on drums, and we can still remember him saying, "This changes everything." And it did. The response we got that day gave us the courage/faith to go and approach other festivals like Kingdom Bound and ask about playing there. As God's providence would have it, Sixpence None the Richer had just hit it big with the song "Kiss Me," and we were asked to replace them at Kingdom Bound a little over two months later. More festivals followed, along with a seemingly endless number of trips back to Rockford IL and the nearby cities in Wisconsin like Janesville and Beloit, gradually spreading all over Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest.

But it all began at the Summerwood Amphitheater, and we'll make our first trip back there this Saturday. It's a good time to sit back and reflect on all the wonderful things God has done for us in the past five years. For example, back then, I was the only member of the band doing it full-time, and it was an unpaid job! Furthermore, Biblical Graffiti, Spoofernatural, Keep the Change, Have Yourself a Parody Little Christmas, Grace Period and Adam Up hadn't yet been released nor had we even started recording Biblical Graffiti. And we had five people, our luggage and all of our equipment crammed into a little Ford Aerostar mini van! And so much else has changed, all for the better! God has blessed us so abundantly. And having you as our friends, fans and family is a huge part of that blessing Thank you all!

One other note before we get to the news: Last Saturday, God blessed me with the thrill of playing on the main stage at a major Christian music festival in my hometown (Greensburg PA). Furthermore, those in attendance got a special surprise -- the first ever "live" performance of "Meshach" (our parody of "Love Shack" by the B-52's) with ALL of the parties involved on the "Adam Up" CD, including Everlife (who performed it live with us once before, earlier this year, in San Diego) and Bill Hubauer, who'd never played it in concert with us. It was great! Thanks to the girls in Everlife for sharing the stage with us!

6. Vote for ApologetiX to Play Alive '05 Festival

Alive Festival in Canal Fulton OH (near Cleveland) is taking votes to determine which artists will play at Alive '05. ApologetiX has played twice at Alive (2000 and 2001) but hasn't been back since. We got great response when we played the other two times, but festivals sometimes like to rotate the line-up every few years. We'd love to come back. If you'd like to help, please click on this link to vote for ApologetiX. Thanks!

7. "Downer of a Sister" Moves Upward on the Charts

"Downer of a Sister," the third single from our "Adam Up" CD, has moved up to #7 on the ChristianBEATS Alternative charts, and had the most adds last week on the ChristianBEATS Rock charts. It also was #4 on R&R's New and Active Rock charts and just debuted at #27 on ACME's Top 50 Internet singles.

The band members got a sneak preview of the video last weekend. It's very funny and cool! Our director/producer, Karl Messner, did a great job. By We hope to have it showing on national T.V. soon so you can see it, too!
