The Meaning Behind the Title of Our New CD

Our next CD is called Braggadocious. Why?
Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Dizzy Dean once said, "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up." Regardless of whether Ol' Diz was right, the Bible surprisingly shows that not all boasting is bad. This CD refers to two different kinds of bragging done by two different kinds of people — those who are "Braggin' and Lyin'" and those who want to "Brag on the Lord All Day."
It doesn't take a genius to identify bad bragging. The world is full of that, and even people who don't read the Bible know that pride goeth before a fall, a saying based on Proverbs 16:18. But the Good Book has a lot to say about good bragging, too. In Jeremiah 9:23-24, the Lord says:
"Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight …"
Both 1 Corinthians 1:31 and 2 Corinthians 10:17 say, "Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord." Later the Apostle Paul goes on to say, "If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness" (2 Corinthians 11:30). In Galatians 6:14, he adds, "May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."
Bad bragging can get you into trouble, and so can good bragging, but let's all praise, and don't fear the people. Everyone who redirects the spotlight from themselves to Jesus goes from brags to riches.
