Rich Gets Quick: Fastest ApX Member to 100 Songs
Sat., Aug. 7. 2021 12:00pm EDT
Our new CD, Get Rich Quick, arrived from the duplicator yesterday. As we pointed out in a previous newsletter, the title refers to the fact that we leaned so heavily on our keyboardist, Rich Mannion, as he provided keyboards and drum-programming on all 12 tracks, plus backing vocals on six of them and guitars on two more.
Our next single, slated for release this weekend, will feature the 100th song Rich has been a part of. And his 101st. He reached the century mark faster than any other member of ApologetiX. Rich played keyboards on 99 of those tunes but also sang on two songs that did not feature keyboards, "Coming with Age" and "Cleaned-Up Heart."
We first hooked up with him in April 2018 through the recommendation of ApX alum keyboardist/producer Bill Hubauer. Our first Mannion-handled parody was "L.S.F.," released in early July 2018.
In addition to his keyboard contributions, Rich has provided vocals on 25 songs, programmed drums on 20 songs, and played guitar on five songs. Actually, those numbers only count what he's done up to and including this weekend's single. He has already completed the keyboard parts and drum-programming for two more songs after that and has started work on a third.
During the time Rich has been with ApX, he's also been the keyboardist with the award-winning blues group Bobby Thompson and the Groove. and the staff pianist for The Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling WV.
We realize that some people think everybody deserves a participation trophy these days, but if anybody deserves a participation trophy, it's Rich Mannion. Bravo, Rich!
