Improvements Made on Another Recent Single
Fri., Dec. 3. 2021 12:06am EST
We've made some significant changes to another song on one of our recent singles, "School of Ours." The song we spoofed, "Boulevard" by Jackson Browne, was originally played on a specific brand and make of guitar, and we finally decided that the only way to properly replicate that sound was to rerecord the guitar parts for our version on one of those guitars.
On Wednesday, December 1, at about 6:30 p.m., we replaced the old version in our online store with the new one. If you've downloaded the "Plagues/School of Ours" single from our website since then, you have the new version. If you got it before then, you have the old version, but you can still get the new one without any additional expense.
As we explained a month ago, from time to time, we'll make adjustments to improve certain songs from our singles when we put them on CD. Examples include "Talking Inner Peace," "Makes Me Cranky," and "Show Us the Way." If you've only ever heard the single versions of those songs, you really ought to hear the CD versions.
We recently made edits to two songs from the two singles before that — "Signora Pilate's Dream" and "Runnin' Down the Drain." Rather than save them for the CD, we decided to make them available on the single, too. On November 1, we replaced the old versions in our online store with the new ones.
The changes to "Signora Pilate's Dream" involve the clarity of the overall mix. The performances are the same, but we made adjustments to liven up the sound and to improve the clarity of the lead vocals. We think it's a major improvement.
There is a single change to "Runnin' Down a Drain," but it's an interesting one. There was a glockenspiel part at the very end of Tom Petty's original version (it sounds a little like wind chimes). Rich played it, but we'd forgotten to mix it in. The new version has it.
If you've already gotten any of the three singles we mentioned from us, just use the links we sent you and download them again. If you got the singles but no longer have the links, send an email to j@apologetix.com and request the links again, and we'll be happy to send them to you.
