Another ApX Top 10 from Athens GA
Fri., Jan. 7. 2022 5:25pm EST

In late November 2021, a fan in Wyoming sent us her Top 10 favorite ApologetiX songs and suggested that we invite other fans to do the same and possibly make it a regular feature in our newsletter. In recent weeks, we've shared lists from fans in Kansas, Pennsylvania, and New York.

Now here's one from a fan in Georgia:

I'm calling this the top ten challenge, because it is a challenge!! Wow. I would even have trouble making a set list for a concert, and that would probably be about 20-25 songs.

I once tried making a "Favorites" playlist and then I realized I was adding most of the songs into it. Then I started my "Absolute Favorites" playlist and that ended up being 4+ hours long and that was only when Braggadocious had come out, so there are still another five CDs (plus additional singles) you've released since then.

Also, just noticed that I tried again with an "Absolutely Absolute Favorites" list, and that one was 2.3 hours. So that's why this one will make me think hard! I'm carefully selecting the songs that are my top favorites not because I just like the music of the song but because the lyrics combined with the music are so powerful.

This is like finding the best slice on a $1,000 wedding cake, but here we go. You can call this my Letterman top 10 (song reference there).

10. A Day In the Loaf
(From Sandwich Platter)
I feel like I am right there in that desert place where the crowds followed JESUS to listen to Him. Sitting there in the grass and seeing this take place. You knocked this one out of the park!

9. One More Wall
(From Apoplectic)
This is my "rally the troops" song! Faith rises up and ready to tear down that wall!

8. Narrow Way To Heaven
(From Chosen Ones & Classics 70's Vol. 1)
Talk about redeeming a song! This is such a great example of that. The vocal high note at the end is always a great one to see if I can hit that note! I love the words. If I could play a song for any fan of the 70's, having them listen without distraction on headphones with lyrics in hand, this would be the pick! What's amazing is that this was live. This is a testament to the gifts God has gifted you all with and continues to with everyone on these recordings!

7. Still His Name
(From Conspiracy No. 56)
This song has a holiness to it that makes me want to take off my shoes because I'm on holy ground. I feel the reverence of Godly Jews who won't even speak His Name or spell out all of the letters because His Name is Holy. I don't let anyone use "Oh my (you know what)" in my household. The New Testament also says, "let them that name the Name of Christ to depart from iniquity"
(2 Tim. 2:19) so I think of it in that way as well.

6. More Than Works
(From Apol-acoustiX & Classics Lite)
I've sung this so many times (both vocal parts) and even made a cover version of this parody. The words are special to me.

5. Lazzie Lay
(From Radical History Tour & Classics Lite)
This song pumps me up so much. I feel like I'm right there at the tomb and he comes out after four days.

4. Cheap Birds
(From Keep the Change & Classics 70's Vol. 1)
I've gotten goosebumps on this one so many times. The words are so powerful. Luke 12 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible. The guitar solo is a definite highlight, and I was always bummed it faded out! Ha. I know it gave us an extra song on the CD, so I'm thankful for that.

3. Hurry Home Wayward Son
(From Recovery)
I'm a big fan of some of the classic progressive rock, so Kansas is on that list, of course. This is such a powerful song I would play for someone who has gone astray or doesn't think God could forgive them. I don't think I can possibly listen to this one without air-drumming. You all nailed it on this one (and many others)! I think Kerry Livgren would be proud!

2. Selling the Dogma
(From Zebraic)
Like my coming #1 entry, this is just so powerful. The Gospel is awesome. It is sobering to really soak in these words.

1. Killing My Suffering With His Son
(From Quilt)
This song just takes me to another place. It hits on every possible single checkbox. It is the power of the Gospel. I've gotten goosebumps, tears, and you name it. I don't think I can really even drive while listening to this. It's like standing right in front of JESUS and He shows me the nails in His Hands. I'm just humbled with gratitude for His love for me (and us).

Honorable Mention:
Do What David Did
Hey Zaccheus
Wise Men Still
The Power Above
Feelin' Stronger In the Faith
God's Own Son

I have many favorites of songs within the last year, but I'm letting those settle in more before I call them an all-time favorite. There are a couple that could make this list, though, for sure!
