J. Jackson, lead singer/lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) here.
Thanks to all of you who came out to see us last weekend at Crossover 2002 with Rachel Lampa and Mercy Me. It was great to be back in Missouri again and to be back on stage again after taking a month off! This week, I'm in the studio with Karl working on the vocal tracks for our seventh CD, "Grace Period," which we plan to release later this summer. Please keep us in your prayers as we endeavor to complete this project. Right now, things are going very well!

4. OUR NEW CD, GRACE PERIOD: CLUE #11
Later this summer we are scheduled to release our seventh CD, "Grace Period," with 20 parodies of rock hits from yesterday and today. In a time-honored tradition, we have been giving our e-mail subscribers clues as to the contents ó what our parody version is about and what song/artist we're spoofing. Here is clue #11:
#11 Don't Fear the People
One of the all-time favorite parodies of ApologetiX band members and fans alike is a song called "People," on our "Ticked" CD, which discusses the apostles and their willingness to be martyred for the cause of Christ. Our new song "Don't Fear the People" is also about martyrdom and the willingness to stand up for your faith. I just noticed while typing this that both parodies use the word "people" in their titles and the original versions of both these songs were about people who weren't afraid to die, even though they had nothing to die for. Our parodies are about people who are willing to die only because they know the one Person who died and brought Himself back to life and is able to resurrect everyone who believes in Him. (John 11:25,26).
The key scripture verse for this song is this quote from Jesus in Matthew 10:28: "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell." In other words, Jesus is telling us that the only person we need to fear is God. And if you have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, you don't fear Him in the sense of being afraid of Him; in this case, that fear is a reverential respect and awe for God, knowing that He is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (all places). In that sense, the Bible says "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 1:7).
In ApologetiX, we are always interested in the study of cults and how to evangelize them, so it's only fitting that all of the members of the group that did the original version of this song had ties to a famous cult. The group itself only had two Top 40 hits, and this one was their biggest, reaching #12 in the mid-1970's, whereas their second hit didn't come until 1981. You can still hear both of those songs on album-oriented rock stations today, along with another monster hit they had that never reached the Top 100 but still got plenty of airplay. I'd imagine it was really big in Japan. Believe it or not, this group's lead singer is also the cousin of shock radio and TV host Howard Stern.
5. PRAYER REQUESTS
Please pray for my oldest sister, Jeannine, who is in desperate need of a liver transplant or a total miraculous healing of her liver. She is currently in the hospital (an excellent hospital with the best doctors you could ask for), awaiting a donor. Please pray that God would strengthen her body and spirit during this time. Please also pray for our former drummer Fred Behanna's daughter Beth, who is undergoing treatment for Hodgkins Disease, which has been a recurring and life-threatening problem for her.
God bless you all!
Apologetically,
J.

John 11:25,26
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
